• the theoretical basis of risk and hazard in natural disasters,
• types of natural disasters, their mode of action, destructive effects of natural disasters in Slovenia and worldwide (earthquakes, landslides, floods, weather disasters, biological and anthropogenic disasters) and ways of adaptation and protection against them,
• man as a transformer of the environment and his role in the occurrence of natural disasters,
• sociological and psychological aspects of natural disasters and disaster management,
• socio-geographical determinants of society's ability to respond to the threat of natural disasters,
• the organisation and functioning of society in the event of natural disasters,
• methods of identifying hazards, risks and threats and their application in decision making and development planning.
